Match Report: Chitipa United FC 0-4 Mighty Wanderers FC

Chitipa United's unbeaten home run in the 2026 FDH Premiership League came to an end on Sunday afternoon after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Mighty Wanderers at Chitipa Stadium.

The result was also Chitipa United's fourth defeat in six league matches, a setback that has had an impact on their position on the league table.

Head Coach Kondwa Ikwanga named a reshuffled starting XI, making several changes from the side that has featured regularly this season. Among the notable inclusions was returning defender Blessings Joseph, who made his first appearance since rejoining the club from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets after previously spending two seasons with the team.

The tactical changes were evident from the opening stages as Chitipa struggled to settle, and the visitors made a dream start when Isaac Kaliati powered home a 6th-minute header from a Stanley Sanudi delivery.

Wanderers doubled their advantage four minutes later through an unfortunate own goal after a back pass from Blessings Joseph, intended for goalkeeper John Banda, ended up in the net.

Chitipa gradually grew into the game and enjoyed a better spell of possession, but the visitors remained clinical and extended their lead in the 32nd minute when Lameck Mithi finished from a Gaddie Chirwa assist to make it 3-0 going into the break.

Trailing at halftime, Chitipa United made changes at the start of the second half, bringing on more familiar faces from the bench, including Nelson Sikaona, Friday Osagie, Zenga Manda, and Olamba Ngese as they sought a response. The substitutions brought renewed energy and improved structure, with the hosts producing a much stronger second-half performance.

The match also saw youngster Innocent Kayira make his senior debut in the 62nd minute when he replaced Joseph Mbagha.

Despite the improved display, Wanderers remained clinical and sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when substitute Muhammad Sulumba finished from another Stanley Sanudi’s assist to complete the 4-0 scoreline.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Kondwani Ikwanga said his side was punished for a slow start.

“If what we planned had happened in the first ten minutes, it could have been a different game. We did too much ball-watching and were punished for it,” said Ikwanga.

He added that the team will use the result as a learning curve as they continue developing a young squad.

At full time, Wanderers took all three points while Chitipa United were left to reflect on a difficult afternoon that ended their unbeaten home run.
